The Park 300/300 – Best of The Rest (December)

It’s hard to believe a year has passed, yet it has and my little photographic project has reached its conclusion. I had hoped to chart a year of strolls through Temple Newsam, a public park in Leeds. My aim was to keep a record of the changing seasons in 300 photographs.

Unfortunatley I didn’t get to the park today to take one last photo. In a way that’s appropriate as it has been so busy over the Christmas period. The memories I will cherish from this year are not the packed out holiday periods or summer Sundays. They will be the days when I have walked for hours with my dog and barely seen a soul. Selfish I know but they are the days I have enjoyed the most. Today wouldn’t have been one of them.

I have ended the year therefore with the ‘Best of The Rest’ of my photographs from December. It has been a fun project that has got me out and about in all weathers. At times it has been a little tying and I have felt the pressure to take photos when I maybe didn’t want to. The idea though was to give myself a challenge. For those interested in such things, all the images were taken using a Sony Xperia mobile phone.

I have never intended to be a ‘grumpy old man’ bemoaning Leeds City Council on this feature and have said what I have had to  in previous posts. I will though conclude the year by reiterating what I said at the beginning. This park must be one of the ‘jewels in the crown’ of Leeds open spaces and I would only ask that those with influence ensure and are happy that everything that can be done is being done to protect it for Leeds folk, for hundreds more years.

This project is now over. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to like or comment on the photographs throughout the year. It has made the ordeal! of trudging ankle-deep in mud, soaked through to the skin from the rain a worthwhile one.

Next year? Well as ever I am a little behind and still thinking about what to do. My poetry 365 project also finishes today. I should therefore have more time for other aspects of my blog.

My thoughts at the moment for 2016 are to finish my musical tour of Europe that has fallen by the wayside. Carry on with postcards and general ramblings. Undertake to produce a weekly poem and short story. The photo project is undecided. I had thought an A – Z of Leeds in 300 photos. This may yet be an A –  Z of Yorkshire in 300 photos. I will let you know in the next day or so.

Once again thanks for all of your support over the last year. Special thanks to a photographer friend. Who despite objecting to the fact that I wasn’t using a camera has helped me with tips and advice throughout the year. Thanks to my wife who I think is sick of hearing about ‘the park’. My heartiest thanks though go to my dog who I met for the first time in March this year. She has been unswerving in her support of this project. never grumbling about the weather or offering an opinion on anything. It has been a delight to be out with you and I hope to do it all again next year.

Will I be back to Temple Newsam, you bet. It might though be in a week or two! We have some other places that need exploring first.
